Storage mezzanines. Pallet space without moving the building.
Single and multi-tier structural steel platforms for racking, pallet storage, and overflow inventory — sized to the actual floor load, forklift access, and code envelope of your warehouse. The largest single category of mezzanine work we ship.
Vertical density when horizontal real estate is full.
Most warehouses we work with run out of floor space before they run out of cubic. A storage mezzanine recovers the cube — adding 4,000 to 25,000+ sqft of usable deck without expanding the building footprint or moving the existing rack layout. The constraints are real but limited: structural floor capacity below, clear headroom above, forklift turning radius around the access stairs, and the building's egress envelope.
Common configurations
- Single-tier storage — one elevated deck for pallet storage or rack-supplemental space. Most common.
- Multi-tier — two or three stacked decks for vertical density. See multi-tier mezzanines.
- Rack-adjacent — mezzanine alongside or above existing pallet racking; engineered around the rack column lines.
- Modular / relocatable — bolt-together kits for fit-ups that may move. See modular mezzanines.
Load class — the central decision
Pallet storage typically runs 125 – 250 psf live load; bulk overflow with stacked product can hit 250 – 500 psf. The number drives everything downstream: column spacing, beam depth, deck thickness, and footing detail. Under-spec'ing here is the most common mezzanine failure mode — the floor flexes, the racks shift, the inspector flags it. We size the deck to the actual product, not to a stock catalogue load class. See the load ratings guide for the calculation.
Deck options
- B-deck + concrete — most rigid, smoothest surface, supports rolling loads.
- Bar-grate — open mesh; good for sprinkler coverage to lower levels, drainage.
- Resin board — light-load applications; lower cost, lower capacity.
- Heavy-gauge steel plate — for concentrated point loads (machinery, dies).
