Residential steel stairs. Industrial-grade engineering at a residential scale.
Custom interior or exterior steel stairs for renovations, additions, and custom homes — designed by an Ontario P.Eng., welded in our CWB-certified shop, finished to the architectural spec. The same standards we apply to a 30,000-sqft warehouse mezzanine, scaled down.
Renovation, addition, custom home.
Residential work is a smaller share of what we do, but it draws on the same engineering bench. A homeowner adding a basement walk-out, an architect spec'ing a steel-and-wood floating stair, a custom-home builder needing an exterior egress — all of them get the same stamped drawing, CWB welding, and shop-finished steel that an industrial mezzanine project gets.
Common applications
- Interior renovation stairs — open-tread or closed, modern or traditional; we work to the architectural design rather than imposing a stock geometry.
- Basement walk-outs — exterior galvanized stairs from grade to a basement entry.
- Addition / second-floor stairs — when a renovation triggers OBC §9.8 compliance on the existing stair as well.
- Exterior egress / fire escape — for converted residential or multi-unit conversions.
Finish options
Powder-coat in any RAL colour, two-coat industrial paint, hot-dip galvanized for exterior, or shop primer if the homeowner intends to paint on site. For visible interior steel, we shop-apply the finish so the install is clean.
Differences from industrial work
- Code envelope — OBC Part 9 (residential) instead of Part 3 (commercial / industrial); guard height drops from 1070 mm to 900 mm typical for dwelling-unit interior guards, rising back to 1070 mm where the guard is > 1800 mm above grade.
- Architectural visibility — bolt heads, weld lines, and tread profiles all matter; we shop-finish more aggressively.
- Tighter site access — residential garages and stairwells limit component sizes; we segment for the actual site, not the truck.
- Coordination with finish trades — wood treads, glass infill, and stone landings often follow our work; we provide the structural carriage and tie-in details.
