Non-penetrating rooftop steel guardrail installed on a London, Ontario building

In short: We're an Ontario fabricator serving London with mezzanines, rooftop guardrails, and stairs, stamped to OBC 2024. London is about two hours down the 401, so we ship the finished steel and install with our own crew on larger projects, or supply it contractor-ready.

For the 401/402 corridor.

London anchors southwestern Ontario's manufacturing — food processing, auto parts, and distribution across the Innovation Park, the Veterans Memorial Parkway corridor, White Oaks, and Wilton Grove, all served by the 401 and 402. It's a market where a well-built mezzanine, a rooftop guardrail, or a run of egress stairs is a routine part of keeping a plant compliant and productive.

At roughly two hours down the 401, London is a ship-and-install market for us: the steel is engineered, fabricated, and finished in our shop, then freighted down and set by our crew on larger projects, or supplied contractor-ready for a local install. Modular, bolt-together detailing makes that clean when a full install trip isn't warranted.

A 420-lf rooftop guardrail.

For a London building we supplied and installed roughly 420 linear feet of non-penetrating rooftop guardrail — fall protection around a roof work area without drilling the membrane. Non-penetrating guardrail is all about the ballast and the layout: it has to hold the required load without a single roof penetration to void a warranty.

Measure, stamp, build, deliver.

  1. 01

    Site measure

For London we often work from your drawings and photos plus a coordinated site visit for anything attached to existing structure — enough to lock the design before fabrication.

  2. 02

    Stamped drawings

Engineered and P.Eng.-stamped to OBC 2024 in-house — the set the City of London Building Division needs for the permit.

  3. 03

    In-house fabrication

Cut, welded, and finished at our shop to CWB W47.1 — not white-labelled out. Galvanizing or shop primer as the environment calls for.

  4. 04

    Delivery & install

Crated and freighted down the 401. On larger London projects we install with our own crew; on smaller ones we supply contractor-ready with erection drawings and phone support through the set.

See the full engineering & install process for how each stage is controlled.

// Who builds it

Span Line Systems is the industrial mezzanine and stair division of Art Metal Canada. Drawings are stamped by a PEO-licensed P.Eng. on staff; welding is done to CWB W47.1 and CSA W59 by our own certified fabricators. We don't white-label the fabrication or subcontract it out — the shop that draws it builds it.

Straight answers.

Do you install in London, or only ship?
Both. London is about two hours away, so on larger projects we send our own crew; on smaller ones we ship the steel contractor-ready with erection drawings and stay available through the install. Modular bolt-together detailing makes contractor assembly clean.
Which London areas do you serve?
Innovation Park, the Veterans Memorial Parkway corridor, White Oaks, Wilton Grove, and the wider 401/402 industrial belt.
Are your drawings valid for a London permit?
Yes — everything is engineered and P.Eng.-stamped to the Ontario Building Code, which applies province-wide, and submitted through the City of London Building Division.

We serve southwestern Ontario — Woodstock, Ingersoll, Sarnia, Windsor — and ship province-wide. See the full service-area map or tell us the span.
